When I did the big chop I didn’t really think about donating my hair and I probably should’ve….sortt offfff. Anyways the thought came across the other day when a friend pointed it out to me. Today I’m pointing it out for YOU, in case you’re thinking about doing a big chop or whatever, I want you to know that there’s options or there SHOULD BEEEE some alternative options besides just throwing your hair in the garbage like I did :( I took the time to google on that and there’s this non-profit organization Locks of Love that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. There’s this other similar non-profit organization Wigs For Kids. I also found: Pantene Beautiful Lengths, they create free wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment; and this one, Matter Of Trust, THE ONLY ONE that used to take any type/length of hair to make mats that soak up oil spills… sad they don’t do it anymore. WHAT I REALLY WANT TO POINT OUT is that most of these sites I found are def not inclusive… AT ALL. Starting from the fact that all I saw was WHITE PEOPLE everywhere, smiling with their white savior’s faces or white kids in need, cuz apparently these are the only kids that are in need of hair… or wait… is it that your organization already knows that we’re soo whitewashed that we’re probably gonna get “good hair” for our kids, right? and our women too, right?……. Moving from the obvious I took a look at the requirements for hair donations and SURPRISE if your hair’s curly/wavy you will have to make it straight before sending it anddd if it’s chemically treated FORGET ABOUT IT. So not even if I wanted to donate my hair I CAN’T. And for all of you out there, the same as me, take the message that whitewashed society is giving you: they want us to buy their products to make us look more like them to be “accepted” by them and then we as the product of their fucked up system end up left out and confused cuz it’s a fact they know and let us know that this “whitewashed product” is garbage and they will always look down to it. fuck that shit, seriously wake up
Day 34: mmm so you too were thinking about donating your hair?
